Train cancellations in summer: Commuters in Schleswig-Holstein have to reschedule!
With its construction sites and necessary maintenance work, summer has a firm grip on rail traffic in Schleswig-Holstein. Commuters and travelers have to prepare for numerous train cancellations, rail replacement services and changes to the timetable. This is reported by NDR. While Deutsche Bahn, Nordbahn and AKN are optimizing their routes, some lines that are important for commuters between Hamburg, Lübeck and Neumünster will be particularly affected in the coming weeks.
The construction work will last several weeks and is of a large scale. For example, numerous trains on the route between Hamburg and Lübeck will not be running as usual from July 25th to August 4th. The RE 7 and RE 70 will only run to Hamburg-Altona during this period. Things will be particularly tricky between July 28th and 30th, when individual RE 7 trains are canceled between 9:15 p.m. and 12:30 a.m.
Important information about the affected lines
The construction sites affect a variety of routes, including:
- Hamburg Hbf – Pinneberg/Neumünster/Kiel/Flensburg (RE 7 und RE 70): Züge enden vom 25. Juli bis 4. August in Hamburg-Altona.
August betroffen.
- Lübeck Hbf – Neustadt (RB 85): Diverse Ausfälle auch im August.
In order to accommodate travelers, the Nordbahn has set up a replacement rail service with buses for the canceled connections. Where possible, these buses offer low-floor entrances for passengers with reduced mobility.
Construction work and current information
Construction situations don't only exist in the north. All traffic in Germany can also be affected by construction work. A detailed overview of current and upcoming disruptions as well as the locations of construction work can be viewed on the interactive disruption map from bahn.de. This map not only shows where there are problems, but also offers the opportunity to check departure boards and receive individual information about delays.
It is particularly important for commuters to keep an eye on developments. In addition, a new live map from Deutsche Bahn, which is available as a beta version, will expand the range of information available in the near future. This app will make it possible to display current and planned construction work as well as disruptions, and will soon provide all important information to make planning easier for travelers (Zugreiseblog).
The following applies to all travelers: It is best to regularly check the information on the train website and in the app so as not to experience any unpleasant surprises during the journey. As we all know, summer brings not only sunshine, but also challenges - including in rail transport.
