Steinmeier in MV: Gorch Fock and diplomatic visit to Warnemünde!
Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is expected in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania on Tuesday, June 24th. The visit is part of his annual information and encounter trip with the Diplomatic Corps, which this year places a special focus on Germany's regional diversity. Loud Baltic Sea newspaper Steinmeier will make his first stops in Waren an der Müritz, Schwinkendorf and Warnemünde.
The first stage of the visit takes the head of state to the Mecklenburger Metallguss GmbH plant in Waren an der Müritz at 10:15 a.m. Ship propellers are manufactured here, which are not only important regionally, but are also valued beyond the country's borders.
Cultural highlights and conversations right now
A social gathering is planned at lunchtime at Ulrichshusen Castle in Schwinkendorf, where Steinmeier will sit at the table with dignitary guests. Ulrichshusen Castle is known for its impressive Renaissance architecture and acts as a cultural center in the region. The official part of the visit is crowned by a harbor tour in Rostock-Warnemünde, where the “Gorch Fock” is welcomed at 5:45 p.m. The traditional ship arrived in Warnemünde the day before, June 23rd.
Steinmeier's involvement in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is not seen as a one-off act. Already in 2022 he visited the Sunflower House in Rostock to honor the memory of the Lichtenhagen pogrom 30 years ago. Such visits promote connections between the regions and the diplomatic corps, which Steinmeier sees as essential. He knows that the exchange with the ambassadors who come from Lion Cities is of great value.
The task of the diplomatic corps
In a world characterized by unrest and crises, Steinmeier emphasizes the need for international cooperation. This trip, as well as other similar visits to cities like Bremen, where numerous international organizations are represented, are a platform to talk about global challenges. Bremen should continue to play a role in this annual information and encounter trip in the future, not least because of its economic success, which has caused a great stir in recent years.
During his last visit to Bremen in particular, Steinmeier praised the city for its dynamic growth and importance as a business location. Such cities are “hidden champions” that, despite their size, can demonstrate international excellence in various sectors, such as the space industry, in which companies such as Airbus Group and OHB play a central role.
So much for the diplomatic reception formats that Steinmeier and the ambassadors regularly use for exchanges as part of their work. Supported by historical details and cultural references, this approach shows the region's relevance in the overall German structure and beyond.
Steinmeier's visit is expected not only to unite diplomats in their mission, but also to make it clear that dialogue between nations is needed more than ever, especially in times of crisis. Ultimately, the focus is on reducing distrust and strengthening international relationships.
For Steinmeier, the trip to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is more than an official appointment - it is a re-encounter with a region that he appreciates and that he would like to present in all its diversity.
