UNESCO Serrahn Beech Forest: Vote now for the natural wonder of the year!

In an exciting initiative, the Heinz Sielmann Foundation and the German Hiking Association invite you to vote for the “Natural Wonder of the Year 2025”. This election highlights the beauty and diversity of our local nature and gives citizens the opportunity to vote for the extraordinary natural phenomenon that they believe deserves special recognition. The competition has already started and votes are requested until September 28, 2025!

One of the outstanding nominees is the UNESCO Serrahn beech forest in the Müritz National Park, which can be found in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The Serrahner World Heritage Forests are among the oldest semi-natural deciduous forest areas in Germany and have been able to develop undisturbed for centuries. The area is a real bargain for nature fans as it is home to majestic giant trees, impressive copper beeches and centuries-old pine trees. But it's not just the trees that are impressive; Lakes and moors create habitats for thousands of plant, fungi and animal species that fit harmoniously into this natural ensemble. nordkurier.de reports that the forest is supported by hiking clubs and volunteers to highlight the beauty and importance of the region.

The other venerable nominees

But Serrahn is not alone in the choice! There are a total of nine breathtaking natural locations to choose from that have the potential to conquer the hearts of nature lovers. Other nominated natural wonders include:

However, the choice is not only intended to highlight the beauty of these natural wonders, but also to promote the appreciation and protection of local nature, as those responsible for the Heinz Sielmann Foundation and the German Hiking Association emphasize. The collected votes can be cast online at www.sielmann-stiftung.de/naturwunder.

The decisive day

The grand finale is scheduled for September 29, 2025, when the winner of the “Natural Wonder of the Year 2025” will be announced. Until then, voters still have plenty of time to cast their vote for the natural phenomenon that matters most to them. So what are you waiting for? Let's support our local natural wonders and stand up for the beauty of nature!
