In the night from Thursday to Friday, the 29th international Trabant meeting in Anklam was overshadowed by criminal activities. On the event site, thieves penetrated tents and camping trailers and stole cash. A total of 13 advertisements were filed with the police in Anklam, and the estimated damage amounts to several thousand euros. Organizer Jens Ruberg, the chairman of the Trabbi buggy club, regretted it regret about these incidents and appealed to those present to pay attention to their valuables and to lock their GDR vehicles. He also informed about increased security measures the following night, supported by volunteers and participants. However, a complete monitoring of the entire square is not possible, which makes the situation more difficult.
The meeting, which took place in Anklam, attracted several thousand fans of the legendary Trabant cars for several days. The organizer spoke of the world's largest Trabi meeting, in which a total of 618 trabants and 204 vehicles from other GDR and Eastern Bloc brands, such as Wartburg, Barkas and Lada, were represented. In addition to the parade, the participants were able to acquire spare parts for their classic cars on a market with 21 dealers. These parts mainly come from Hungary and China, while wearing parts are rebuilt. Motors themselves are no longer rebuilt, but only processed for which there are specialized workshops in Germany.

The Trabant has developed from a object of use of socialism to a real cult phenomenon in Germany since it started in 1958 in Zwickau. The trabant, also affectionately called "Trabi", symbolizes individual mobility and evokes memories of the GDR period. The input specifications for this vehicle included a top speed of 80 km/h, a weight of 600 kg and the use of plastic parts, which contributed to the characteristic look of the car. The name "Trabant", which means "loyal companion", was chosen according to a survey.

Although the technology was considered outdated and the Trabant was often exposed to the mockery of international automotive builders, the vehicle enjoyed after reunification of a Renaissance and developed into a sought -after collector's item.

During the meeting, numerous competitions provided entertainment. Especially a spectacle competition in which young men tried to squeeze into a trabant caused a sensation. 15 participants managed to get inside the vehicle, while three also found space in the trunk. This type of actions shows the fun and the community that shape the meeting. The event was rounded off by a creatively converted Trabant, which appeared as a monster truck and is even to be able to push snow.
The 29th International Trabant meeting is therefore not only a place of gathering for fans and lovers of this iconic vehicle, but also a look back at a moving automotive history that combines many with nostalgic memories. Despite the theft incidents, the spirit of the meeting remains unbroken, and the lovers of the Trabants continued their celebrations.
