Bach week in Greifswald: A festival for the whole family!

Greifswald, Deutschland - The anticipation for the 79th Greifswald Bachwoche is great. From June 16 to 22, 2025, the music will come to Greifswald under the motto "Bach Family" with a bulging program. Prof. Frank Dittmer took over the overall artistic management. The event, which takes place in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district until Sunday, has devoted itself to the important family of Johann Sebastian Bach. The focus is particularly on the works of his generation of parents and the Bach sons.

This year, visitors can look forward to exciting performances, including compositions by Johann Christoph, Wilhelm Friedemann and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. The Greifswald Bachwoche attracts around 10,000 music lovers every year, which is particularly important for cultural life in the region. This tradition goes back to 1946 when the first "Bach days" by Hans and Annelise Pflugbeil were launched. Greifswald, which was one of the few undamaged old cities after the Second World War, has developed a permanent place in music history.

diverse program for the whole family

The program includes a dazzling offer that should address all generations. These include family concerts, student dance projects, concerts by the cathedral children's choirs and even an organ concert for children. A special highlight will be the event "moving history", which addresses the fate of the Bach family and deals with important aspects such as death and grief. The “Christ” Oratorio with music by Johann Sebastian Bach is also on the program.

To make it easier to visit families, a “family ticket” was introduced-from four people, the members benefit from reduced prices that also include friends. This shows that the organization is trying to have a good knack for its visitors.

Bach in the current time

It is particularly noteworthy that the festival weeks fall in the context of Bach's 275th anniversary of death this year. Germany celebrates the musical legacy of Johann Sebastian Bach with over 160 events, such as the Thuringian Bachwoche and the Bachfest in Leipzig. This musical legacy is not only alive in the cities of Thuringia, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, but is also celebrated lively in Greifswald.

The locations that are closely linked to Bach's life, like his birthplace in Eisenach, are recognized through various events across Germany and show the influence that Bach had on the entire music history as well as modern music styles such as jazz and rock.

The Greifswald Bachwoche is not only a local event, but also an important building block as part of the nationwide celebrations. The city becomes a cultural center for everyone who wants to experience Bach's music in a family setting.

Further information can be found on the official website of the Greifswalder Bachwoche. The anticipation for every single appearance is already noticeable - do not miss this!
