Flood warning: Current levels of the Baltic Sea in MV!
Last week, the water levels of the Baltic Sea in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania caused some unrest. The flood mirror has reached significant values in many regions and made the residents and local authorities aware of. In Warnemünde, for example, the highest flood level was 770 cm as part of the historical measurements, which was measured on November 13, 1872. For the current measurement year, the average values for medium flood (MHW) 617 cm and medium low water (MNW) are 407 cm, which are regularly updated by the specialist authorities in order to be able to better understand the situation, such as the Ostsee-Zeitung reported.
Current level measurements show that the water levels have affected various regions differently. For example, Zingst recorded a water level of 523 cm on July 17, 2025, while 524 cm were measured in Bodstedt. These differences to the middle water vary depending on the location and were published by the MV level portal, which provides the data regularly to inform the citizens about potential dangers from flooding (level portal MV). Sudden climbs could in turn signal a storm surge, which according to the classifications for storm surges on the German Baltic Sea coast between 1.00 and over 2.00 m above the middle water level.
