Cologne chaos: full closure in Kröslin surprises drivers and holidaymakers!
In Kröslin, in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district, the complete closure of the town thoroughfare began on August 25, 2025. This extensive construction work on State Road 262 is intended to increase traffic safety and improve the dilapidated road condition. The Baltic Sea newspaper reports that the construction phase will last 26 months and include a conversion and expansion of the through-town road over a length of 626 meters.
The measure is being carried out as a joint project between the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the municipality of Kröslin and the Bodden Coast Water/Wastewater Association (ZWAB), supported by companies such as E.dis Netz GmbH and Antennentechnik Lubmin e.K. The total costs amount to around 3.5 million euros, the financing is shared by the partners mentioned. The official press release also mentions the expansion of the storm water canal and the renewal of drinking water and power supply lines.
Construction work and diversions
The traffic diversion will be routed via the VG22 district road from Brünzow to Groß Ernsthof, which surprises many drivers, as some residents report. Despite the previous signage, the diversion was not even visible on Google Maps at the beginning. Andreas Roscher, a local resident, is incomprehensible about the ignorance of drivers who use private driveways or ignore barriers. Wolfgang Bentzien, on the other hand, recognizes the benefits of the long-awaited construction work, especially given the poor condition of the road.
The effects of the closure are particularly noticeable for residents. Eva Grötsch, 73 years old, reports problems with supply logistics for her son in need of care. The diversion makes it more difficult for nursing services to access patients, making an already tense situation even more difficult. Local public transport is also affected; Buses now require significantly more time for their journeys, which is seen as extremely problematic by passengers.
Marina accessibility and impact on tourism
Fortunately, access to Marina Kröslin will remain guaranteed during the construction period. Daniel Wechsler, managing director of the marina, assures that accessibility will always be guaranteed. Fanny Holzhütter from the Western Pomerania Tourism Association gives the all-clear for holidaymakers: The additional time required for the journey to the marina only amounts to around ten minutes.
The construction work, which partly also includes the expansion of paved sidewalks and cycle lanes, is an important step towards improving the infrastructure in the region. The diverse measures, which also act as a kind of basic renovation of the area, offer long-term benefits not only to the residents but also to the numerous tourists who visit the region.
