Warning of extreme rain: Danger for Saxony, Brandenburg and Berlin!
The weather situation in Germany is currently causing worried faces: The German Weather Service (DWD) has predicted extreme rainfall for the east and northeast of the country. The regions of Saxony, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Berlin are particularly affected. The highest warning level 4 is declared here, which makes citizens sit up and take notice. Loud daily news Rainfall amounts of between 80 and 140 liters per square meter can fall in just 12 hours, a risk that is difficult to ignore. It is not entirely a coincidence that this is reminiscent of the devastating rainfall caused by the flood disaster in the Ahr Valley.
Areas between Rostock and Stralsund and parts of the Baltic Sea island of Rügen are particularly affected. The DWD's warnings are nothing to be trifled with: Nothing here is earthquake-proof, and the risk of flooding, aquaplaning and landslides is increasing rapidly. Drivers are urged to drive with particular caution as road conditions can change quickly. The emergency services in Berlin have not reported any major problems so far, but the situation remains tense.
Take special care in affected regions
As the reporting further shows, the storms are not just limited to the northeast. In Mainz and the surrounding area, streets are flooded, trees have fallen, and delays in rail traffic are the result. In Karlsruhe, a lightning strike in a residential building caused a stir, fortunately no injuries were reported. The DWD also warns of thunderstorms in Bavaria with gusts of up to 80 km/h and heavy rain of up to 25 liters, but the focus of the storms is to the northeast. Civil society should prepare well, as massive amounts of rain can also lead to water damage in basements.
In order to be best prepared for the situation, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has not only set up reinforced control centers, but also issued recommendations for flood protection measures in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district. A small ray of hope: water on the Baltic Sea should be able to drain away better due to the lack of mountains. But here too, people are required to clear their basements in good time if the storm reports come true.
Events affected
In Berlin, cultural events don't go unscathed: Robbie Williams' open-air concert planned for today had to be postponed due to the weather. A new date has already been scheduled for Wednesday. A concert by the famous opera singer Anna Netrebko on the Gendarmenmarkt is also affected, the alternative date of which is also yet to be announced.
In summary, the current weather situation represents a major challenge for both residents and travelers. It remains to be hoped that the weather forecasts do not come true and that citizens can get through the coming days safely.
