Darß Festival 2025: Premiere of The Heiden of Kummerow” celebrates culture!
Things will be colorful and entertaining in Kummerow! On July 4, 2025, the Darß Festival starts with its latest in-house production “The Heiden von Kummerow – How it all began,” and the anticipation is palpable. The premiere promises theatrical magic for young and old, as the director Niklas Ziemann and his team have come up with a lot of ideas to take visitors into the stories of Ehm Welk.
The story takes place in 1910 and highlights the return of the cowherd Krischan Klammbüddel from Africa, shortly before Easter. An important part of the plot is that the renowned older students move to the secondary school in Randemünde after Easter. A total of 16 children between the ages of 8 and 13 are on stage, which gives the whole adventure a particularly charming touch.
A new theater cycle
This year's production is the start of a new multi-year theater cycle. NDR reports that the stage design had to be designed not only innovatively but also changeable through various funding in order to optimally introduce the audience to the action. Parts of the original interior from the location are also incorporated into the production. And what's particularly exciting is that it's not only played in Standard German, but also in Low German - a crowd-puller that emphasizes regional diversity and culture.
The performances are scheduled until the end of August 2025, with almost 30 performances, including six in Low German. The premiere will be celebrated on Friday evening at 8 p.m. and viewers can look forward to a unique overall experience. Another highlight is Blue Light Day on July 13th, when volunteers receive reduced admission and exciting hands-on activities and emergency vehicles are presented.
