Migrant from Congo inspires AfD supporters in Ribnitz-Damgarten!
On the evening of October 6, 2025, the market square in Ribnitz-Damgarten attracted numerous committed citizens who took part in two political events. While the AfD held a rally in front of the town hall, around 150 people gathered in the opposite corner to support the “Ribnitz-Damgarten stays colorful” initiative. This association receives support from the SPD, the Greens and the Left, and is clearly opposed to right-wing extremist tendencies. According to Baltic Sea Newspaper The atmosphere between the camps was peaceful, while police were present with vehicles to prevent possible confrontations.
The AfD, led by Maik Waack, invoked patriotic feelings in their speeches and called for “taking our country back.” Such slogans are particularly popular with their supporters during election campaigns. Still, speakers offered no concrete solutions to the region's pressing economic problems. Andreas Grebner, a member of “Ribnitz-Damgarten remains colorful,” reported on condescending statements made by Waack against the Ostsee-Zeitung and Angela Merkel.
Local with an international background
A special feature of the event was the presence of the AfD's main speaker, Serge Menga. Born in Congo and in Germany for over 30 years, he praised the country's values, but also expressed sharp criticism of delinquent migrants. He showed understanding for the situation of refugees and emphasized the importance of religious freedom. During Menga's speech, the audience loudly chanted “Germany!”, reinforcing the nationalist mood and enthralling the attentive audience.
Other extreme right-wing groups have also formed in the recent past. At the same time as the AfD rally, the “Ribbnitz-Damgarten Citizens' Forum” organized a meeting under the motto “Unity, Justice, Freedom – Together for Germany”. This group is not without problems, as it is known for its connections to the Identitarian movement and the PEGIDA protest movement, which became popular during the Corona measures. Katapult MV reports on the presence of prominent members such as Lutz Bachmann and Dario Seifert, all of whom pursue a clear agenda and represent radical positions.
Social resistance
Given the growing number of such events, civil society alliances are taking measures to combat extreme right-wing ideas. On May 11, 2025, in many cities in Germany, the slogan “No more excuses!” demonstrated. These demonstrations are a response to the perceived threat from the AfD, which, according to the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, is considered “certainly right-wing extremist”. ZDF emphasizes that many people no longer accept this danger and are demanding proceedings to ban the party. In large cities like Berlin and Munich, tens of thousands of citizens are mobilizing to raise their voices against emerging extremism.
The political tensions in Ribnitz-Damgarten thus reflect a larger trend that can be observed not only in the region but nationwide. Further developments and the response of civil society will be crucial to the success or failure of such movements. It remains to be seen how the debate about the AfD and its influence on society will continue.
