In Mukran on Rügen there is currently a dramatic back and forth around the future of the pipe manufacturer German arches. The company, which only treaded in public in 2016 with a much -praised topping -out ceremony and the presence of the then Chancellor Angela Merkel, is currently faced with a new bankruptcy application. Managing Director Ibrahim Mirmahmutogullari still states that the company is not insolvent. The new insolvency application comes again from Fährhafen-Sassnitz GmbH, which sees Deutsche Bogenn's invoices for more than one million euros not being paid. The Stralsund district court then initiated preliminary insolvency proceedings. This situation is particularly precarious as the DAK health insurance company filed for insolvency this year due to arrears in social security contributions. However, these were settled after an additional payment of around 80,000 euros and the proceedings were temporarily averted daily news reports.
Economic framework conditions
The claims raised by the ferry port company include development costs, media connections and engineering services, which add up to a total of almost 1.5 million euros. In addition, the company premises must be evacuated. Despite initial plans to create 65 jobs in the production of plastic pipes, only a few people are currently employed. This situation sheds further light on the growing number of corporate bankruptcies in Germany, which have shown a worrying trend since 2010. According to data released on March 14, 2025, the number of bankruptcies has risen steadily in recent years, even as the economy is thriving in other areas, such as Statista shows.
The difficulties of Deutsche Bogenn are not only due to operational mismanagement, but also to the strict visa policy in Germany, which the company considers as a shoe for recruiting specialists from Turkey. The insolvency administrators have now taken over the company without business activity, which indicates an early handling. In view of these developments, the question arises: How further with the location in Mukran?

The establishment of Deutsche Bogenn was supported by the state in 2016 with a lot of effort and financial support of nine million euros, but there was never any significant start to production. Instead, the company is now struggling with debts and legal disputes, which is increasingly dwindling hopes for a positive turn in the company's history.
