Stralsund celebrates 60th Sund Swimming: athletes, helpers and exciting records!
On July 5th, Stralsund celebrated the anniversary edition of the Sun Swimming, and the event was a complete success! Over 1,096 swimmers took on the challenge, with an impressive 1,086 of them successfully completing the course. In brilliant weather, the event was supported by hundreds of volunteers who ensured that everything ran smoothly. Their tasks ranged from handing out participation documents to providing the swimmers with hot tea and warming towels at the finish. sundschwimmen.de even reports of dedicated helpers who offered massages and looked after the registration tent.
Among the participants was Michael Mühle from Heidelberg, whose daughter took part in the children's sun swimming. The young generation showed great fighting spirit: As part of the 23rd Children's Sound Swimming, Alia Jahnke and Jakob Strauch won the AK I, while Rieke Krüger and Tjark Meiners won the AK II. The list of award winners is impressive:
| Age group | Gender | winner |
|---|---|---|
| AK I (10/11 years) | Female | Alia Jahnke, Klara Pohsin, Hannah Holz |
| AK I (10/11 years) | Masculine | Jakob Strauch, Jakb Swick, Richard Körsten |
| AK II (12/13 years) | Female | Rieke Krüger, Helena Körsten, Ella Kreideweiß |
| AK II (12/13 years) | Masculine | Tjark Meiners, Hauke Döbler, Ole Rienow |
The big adult competition
But that's not enough! The 60th Sound Swimming event saw equally impressive performances. Tom Maron found himself the winner when he covered the distance in 27.52 minutes. The oldest starter, Klaus-Dieter Droste, at 85 years old, did not allow himself to be discouraged and completed the route after two hours and five minutes. Stories like these are a reminder that swimming requires not only endurance but also heart.
Another sporting moment occurred when a 71-year-old swimmer had to be resuscitated, but fortunately was quickly able to respond. This shows how important the safety precautions taken by the helpers are to ensure the well-being of the swimmers during the event. ostsee-zeitung.de highlights the commitment of the helpers, without whom this event would not be possible!
A look back and forward
Ulf Schwarzer, the event's chief organizer, looks back with pride on 25 years of sound swimming. Although he would like to take a step back in the future, he remains active in the background to maintain the tradition of swimming in Stralsund. The enthusiasm of the helpers and participants shows that sun swimming is firmly rooted in people's hearts. There will continue to be exciting competitions and numerous personal stories told in the future.
To celebrate the swimming events in other parts of Germany, swimming enthusiasts can visit the German Year Championships in Berlin this month from June 11th to 15th, where over 1,500 athletes will compete against each other. germanaquatics.de offers free live streams for registered users, not only for these, but also for many other swimming competitions.
