World Student Games 2025: Seven talents from MV are competing!

The anticipation is growing! The World University Games will take place in the Rhine-Ruhr region and Berlin from July 16 to 27, 2025. This event, which is considered the third largest multi-sport event in the world, will bring together around 8,500 athletes from around 150 nations. The General German University Sports Association (ADH) has announced its team, and fortunately seven athletes from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will be representing Germany. NDR reports that the event includes 18 Olympic and one Paralympic sports.

What awaits the athletes? The diving competitions, one of the most notable events, will take place between July 17th and 23rd in Berlin. “For me the nomination means a lot,” said Jette Müller, who took part in the Paris Olympics last year, adding that she hopes to reach the finals and win a medal. Her teammate Espen Prenzyna, who studies Protestant theology at the University of Rostock, has also set herself big goals and wants to be successful in diving. Northern Courier states that Jette and Espen will represent the German colors in diving.

The participants from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

The seven athletes selected for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are:

  • Jette Müller (Wasserspringen, WSC Rostock) – Team Event, Drei-Meter-Brett (Einzel und Synchron)
  • Espen Prenzyna (Wasserspringen) – Turmspringen (Einzel) und Synchron-Springen (3m)
  • Julia Ulbricht (Speerwurf, 1. LAV Rostock)

  • Elias Baggette (Basketball, Rostock Seawolves)
  • Hannah Kohn (Volleyball, SSC Palmberg Schwerin)
  • Luisa van Clewe (Volleyball, SSC Palmberg Schwerin)

Javelin thrower Julia Ulbricht from 1. LAV Rostock is keen to see the World University Games as another international highlight of her sporting career. Till Martini, who studies human medicine in Erlangen, will act as helmsman of the Germany eight, as will Elias Baggette from the Rostock Seawolves, who also excels as a student at the University of Hagen. The athletes are under a lot of pressure as these competitions are also a dress rehearsal for the upcoming World Championships in Singapore, which begin on July 26, they said Northern Courier.
