Mega closure of the A100: Berlin drivers have to plan weekend!

In Berlin, drivers will have to expect an extensive full closure of the Neukölln motorway triangle this weekend. This block runs from June 13th to 16th and is announced by the Transport Information Center (VIZ) Berlin to carry out important work on traffic technology and put a new control center into operation. The closure is the fourth of this kind within a short time, whereby traffic is being redirected for security reasons.

The blocking is carried out on that days from Friday evening 9:00 p.m. to Monday morning 6:00 a.m., which affects numerous access roads in the area of the motorway triangle. In particular, the A100 entrances Britzer Damm and Buschkrugallee as well as the Grenzallee and Späthstraße towards Neukölln motorway triangle are closed. The entire directional lane to Dresden cannot be used during this time, which can lead to significant traffic disruptions. The viz has already asked for understanding for the necessary measures.

cause of the blocking

The work includes the modernization of the control and display technology of the traffic control system. Crane vehicles, lifters and assembly guides are used here, which makes full closure inevitable. In the past few weeks there have been similar restrictions to ensure traffic safety, since the security systems in the tunnel in the Britz district are currently out of operation, which carries additional risks.

The diversion is led over the gradient road. In addition, more night closures on the A100 are planned in the coming weeks to carry out maintenance and maintenance work. These take place during the week, whereby drivers have to expect restrictions between Monday and Friday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Construction of the A100 in context

The A100 motorway is widely considered a symbol of failed transport policy in Germany. The six -lane expansion is already considered one of the country's most expensive motorway projects. The current 16th section leads from the Neukölln triangle to Treptower Park and - taking into account numerous structural and ecological challenges - should be completed at the earliest in 2024. The construction costs are increasing and it is estimated that they could be up to 700 million euros.

While land is acquired for construction, resistance is stored by the environmental protection associations. Among other things, allotment garden colonies were cleared, trees felled and two houses were torn down. Protests have already taken place. An example of this is the federal law, which achieved the preservation of the residential buildings. Nevertheless, many residents remain concerned about the effects of the project on the quality of life in the region.

The 17th construction phase leads from Treptow to Friedrichshain to Lichtenberg and is anchored in the traffic route plan. Conflicts about space consumption and impending interventions in living space and green areas are central topics. Above all, the renovation of the Elsen Bridge and the unclear future route tour of the highway provide discussions and uncertainties about the upcoming changes in the city.

Due to the comprehensive measures in the transport infrastructure, it becomes clear that Berlin is still faced with the challenge of finding a balanced relationship between traffic safety, space consumption and the need for citizens.

rbb24 reports that the full closures are necessary. tag24 analyzed the effects on traffic, during the BUND The ecological and social aspects of the highway buildings question.
