Miss England breaks with Miss World: Allegations and scandal in the final!
The current Miss England, Milla Magee, withdrawn her participation in the "Miss World" competition before the final in India. Magee accuses the organizers of the competition for lying and vengeance. She criticizes that the competition was more about wearing ball dresses and appearance than the political message she wanted to represent: the introduction of first aid measures into the school curriculum. Magee felt more like decorative accessories for investors than as a serious player, which led to her rejection of the competition.
"I could no longer represent morally to take part," said Magee afterwards. She pointed out that the participants had to be in ball dresses and made up in ball clothes from morning to evening, even at breakfast. This experience felt like a "prostitute" that should only serve to maintain men. An organizer criticized her as "boring" and clapped her face to get her attention. After these incidents she contacted her mother crying and finally decided to leave the competition. On May 16, she flew home.
criticism of the organization and support from competitors
Julia Morley, CEO of "Miss World", reacted to Magee's allegations by explaining that Magee had only spent on her lack of winning opportunities. Morley also claimed that Magee left the competition to help her sick mother and also announced legal steps against Miss England because she insulted the host country India. Magee countered that the reaction of the organization had triggered online hate against them, although they received a lot of encouragement from former participants in private news.
These events are not limited to the "Miss World" competition. Similarly, beauty competitions are often criticized. The conditions for participation in competitions such as "Miss Universe" are in the public discussion. These are limited to young, unmarried and childless women, which is considered discriminatory by feminists and women's rights organizations. The French organization "OSEZ Le Féminisme" uses the hashtag #Pastamiss to protest against these backward conditions.
Nevertheless, the discussion about beauty competition also shows a change in the self -image of many women. Many young women are calling for a more progressive and inclusive image of women in such competitions. However, the big events often seem to be far from these demands, which underlines the relevance of the critical voices. Beauty competitions face the challenge of adapting these developments and taking the voices of the women involved seriously.
