Murderous attack in Moabit: Man stabs on a partner

A 40-year-old man from Berlin-Moabit is suspected of having tried on December 22, 2024 to kill his 38-year-old partner with a knife. According to T-Online Dangerous bodily harm. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. in the shared apartment on Lehrter Strasse. The man is said to have taken an approximately 20 cm long knife and stabbed the sleeping woman several times, acting with the intention to kill.

When the woman woke up and defended herself, the man continued to stab them on her. The couple's common son became aware of the situation and was able to hold his father, which prevented another attack. The woman managed to flee the hallway and call for help. Nevertheless, she suffered life -threatening injuries and had to be operated on in the hospital. The accused was still arrested in the apartment and has been in custody since December 23. So far, the defendant has not commented on action.

domestic violence in Germany

The incident is part of a major problem, because violence against women in Germany is widespread. As Statista , many acts of violence take place in the personal or family environment. Domestic violence is perceived as particularly traumatizing and includes both physical and mental attacks. In 2023, around 181,000 of the 256,000 victims of domestic violence were female, which rings substantial alarm bells.

The notification is often influenced by social norms, which means that many cases do not appear. It is particularly worrying that in 2023 almost 100% of the victims of sexual offenses were women. This makes the extent of violence against women and the danger in which they often live. Femicides, the homicide of women due to gender inevitability, are an urgent topic, with the BKA 938 determining the corresponding acts or attempts to act in 2023

In society, it turns out that women in public are often perceived as insecure, especially in the dark. This is in stark contrast to the data on violent crime, where around 70% of victims were men in 2023. Nevertheless, the gender distribution shows an almost same distribution in accomplished homicides, which shows the dangerous gap between perceived and real threat.

help offers for those affected

society is slowly responding to these challenges. Aid offers for women who experience violence are available, such as the help telephone "Violence against Women" under number 116 016, which recorded around 86,700 contacts and around 59,000 consultations in 2023. However, access to security and support often remains a challenge. It is impressive to see that around 30,200 women and children were protected in 378 women's shelters this year, but there are often lack of space and dismissions.

The shocking situation once again shows that the topic of violence against women not only needs more attention and suggestions for solutions in society, but also in society.
