Professor Peter Langer, who designed both the Bachelor and the new master's degree, expresses his hope of a positive development of the program and thanks everyone involved for their support.
study structure and modules
The master's degree in business chemistry is divided into three levels that are organized in the form of a pyramid. The basis consists of basic modules that offer a solid basis in business administration or chemistry. These include, for example, 24 credit points (LP) in business management and 36 LP in various chemical disciplines. Students can also choose elective modules to pursue their individual interests.
The middle level includes advanced modules that convey practical and interdisciplinary knowledge. A chemical research internship and a seminar that deals with business issues are part of this level. Particularly noteworthy is the interdisciplinary building module, in which the focus is on the aspects of "sustainable business in chemistry".
theses and research
The tip of the pyramid forms the interdisciplinary thesis for which 30 LP are awarded. Here, the students develop a topic from the working groups of the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy and develop an economics question in cooperation with a lecturer in economics. This close integration between chemistry and business management is considered the key to solving complex problems in industry.
The University of Rostock also scores with its large number of working groups and institutes, including well-known institutions such as the Leibniz Institute for Catalysis and the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea research that enrich the research landscape. With the new master's degree, not only responds to the need for specialists, but also strengthened the interdisciplinary orientation of the university.
