News from the gourmet world: Germany's top restaurants in the spotlight!

An exciting date is on the culinary calendar: the new “50 Best Restaurants” list was published on June 21, 2025. This list is a topic of conversation because it lists three European restaurants in the top 5, but at the same time offers little incentive to travel to Germany. This follows a trend that highlights the growing quality of restaurants in Germany, such as Foodservice reported.

The awards from the renowned “50 Best Restaurants” list contrast with the results of the MICHELIN Guide, which maps the German gastronomy scene in detail. The MICHELIN Guide Germany 2025, which will be published on July 24th, features the most important successes in gastronomy and offers a comprehensive overview of the best addresses. Cooking friends offers further information and details about the award-winning restaurants here.

Highlights of the MICHELIN Guide

This year, the MICHELIN Guide has added two new 3-star restaurants: the Haerlin in Hamburg and Tohru in the Schreiberei in Munich. The last time there were new entries at this prestigious level was in 2008. In total, Germany can now look back on 341 starred restaurants, which are distributed as follows:

Evaluation Number New arrivals
3 stars 12 2
2 stars 47 5
1 star 282 30

Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guide, praises the quality and creativity of German gastronomy and highlights the trend towards plant-based cuisine. The importance of regionality and seasonality is also an increasingly important topic in the industry. There are also 80 Green Stars for restaurants that take responsibility, 14 of which have been newly awarded.

Special awards

In addition, five MICHELIN Special Awards were presented, recognizing special achievements in various categories. The winners are:

  • Service Award: Daniela Oos
  • Young Chef Award: Luis Hendricks
  • Mentor Chef: Claus-Peter Lumpp
  • Sommelier Award: Marie-Helen Krebs
  • Cocktail Award: Michele Heinrich

In addition, 15 restaurants can look forward to being awarded the Bib Gourmand, meaning a total of 156 Bib Gourmand restaurants are listed in Germany.

For all gourmets and lovers of good cuisine, the MICHELIN Guide Germany 2025 is available from July 24th for 29.95 euros in Germany and 30.80 euros in Austria. To bring the culinary compass into your own four walls, this is an absolute must! Further insights and information about the MICHELIN Guide can be found at Restaurant rankings track.
