From June 6, 2025, a legal new regulation for changing electricity suppliers will come into force in Germany, which brings significant changes. One of the central innovations is that retrospective re -registrations are no longer possible when changing the electricity supplier. The ongoing contract does not automatically end with the move out, but remains active until the re -registration. Until then, responsibility for energy consumption in the old apartment is with the customer.

For a smooth change, complete and correct information is essential, in particular the market logging identification number (Malo-ID), which is awarded by the network operator. Customers who are not directly connected to the public power grid must also ensure that they receive their identification features through the operator of their corresponding customer system. This includes, for example, the landlord or the home owner community. The operator can then contact the network operator to clarify the necessary data, as the Federal Network Agency explained.

After receiving information on market locations, customers can instruct your desired provider. The technical change between providers should take place on working days within 24 hours, but the notice periods remain with the previous provider. Cooperation between customers and operators plays an important role in large systems.
