Heinga becomes a trainer at Ajax: A former Herthan takes over!

Amsterdam, Niederlande - Ajax Amsterdam officially appointed John Heida as the new head coach for the coming seasons. The 41-year-old former Dutch international succeeds Francesco Farioli, who left the club after a messed up championship. Heinga, who used to play for Hertha BSC, has signed a contract until the summer of 2027 and has a long -term connection to Ajax, which includes both his youth and his time as a player of the first team.

In his last position, Heinga was an assistant coach of the Dutch coach Arne Slot at Liverpool FC. Already in 2023 he was interim coach at Ajax, which earned him valuable experience. With its appointment, the association pursues the goal of establishing an elite of sports culture and discipline among the players. Marcel Keizer returns as a co-trainer to support Heinga in this demanding task.

new challenges at Ajax

Heiitinga's obligation is only one year after Francesco Farioli had taken over the coaching position. Farioli, who was born on April 10, 1989 in Barga, Italy, led Ajax to a fifth place in Ligue 1 and reached the quarter -finals of the French trophy before leaving the club in May 2024. Farioli was the first Italian in the history of Ajax and had previously gone through impressive stations as a goalkeeper coach and assistant coach.

Heinga's appointment takes place in a crucial phase in which Ajax tries to assert itself in national and international competition. The new trainer is enthusiastic and ready to continue his work after learning from renowned coaches in the past. He expressed that it was an honor for him to get this chance from Ajax.

The way forward

The expectations of Heinga are high, and both fans and officials hope that he can lead the team into a promising era. With a clear focus on discipline and performance improvement, the trainer duo Heinga and Kizer is determined to continue the tradition of the club and to lead the club back to the top of Dutch football.

In a time when competition increases in both the national and the international scene, the cooperation and vision of the new coaching team will be decisive in order to realize the ambitions of the association for the coming years. The challenges are great, but with the right attitude you could represent the key to a successful future for Ajax.
