Waldseer veterinary medical student saves dog life in Nepal!
Kathmandu, Nepal - Tens of thousands of stray dogs live in Nepal, many of them are sick and urgently need medical help. The uncotrolled breeding leads to high throwing sizes, which makes the road a dangerous place for many puppies. These are often found under pathetic conditions, often without their mother and in poor health. Saskia Kölz, a veterinary medicine student from Bad Waldsee, decided to actively help. She completed a six-week internship in kat centre in Kathmandu, where street dogs are treated every day, which require surgical interventions.
Kölz, who studied in the tenth semester at the Ludwig Maximilians University (LMU) in Munich, was able to go to Kat Center through a scholarship. There she not only helped as a veterinary assistant, but also led operations and carried out four to five interventions a day, including castrations and treatments in broken bones. This experiences have deepened their understanding of the challenges of the animal situation in Nepal.
donation campaign and progress in the Kat Center
In addition to her practical skills, Kölz initiated a fundraising campaign with a fellow student that brought around 1200 euros. The Kat Center is mainly financed by donations, including support from an American sponsor. During her internship, she noticed that an employee of the wearer was present and promoted greater accommodation for the veterinary practice. In fact, the clinic could move and enlarge-a service for which Kölz received a thank you.
The improvements in the Kat Center now enable puppies to be kept separately and more runs and green areas are available for the dogs. Kölz is grateful for the support of the communities on site in animal welfare. In the course of her return to Germany, she plans to take her final exams in October and end her studies in March.
animal protection in Nepal - a joint task
The Kat Center is part of a comprehensive approach to solve the problem of the growing dog and cat population in Nepal, especially in Kathmandu. Here, many stray animals fight with diseases and suffer from abuse, which leads to an extremely worrying state. volunteers play an important role in these projects by providing additional skills and workforce. With this support, the Kat Center can absorb and save more sick and injured animals.
In Nepal, these urban animals face numerous threats: lack of food, constant diseases and attacks by people who are afraid of the street dogs. The Kat Center fights this situation and ensures that the needs of the animals are not overlooked.Details | |
