World Heritage anniversary: Muskauer Park celebrates 20 years of success and progress!
Bad Muskau, Deutschland - On May 27, 2005, Muskauer Park in Bad Muskau received the coveted UNESCO World Heritage title, which is a decisive turning point for the region. The ceremony for this 20th anniversary, which was celebrated with a classic concert, reminded many of the far-reaching challenges that had to be overcome before recognition. Cord Panning, Managing Director of the "Fürst-Pückler-Park Bad Muskau" Foundation, focused on the decisive meeting of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in his explanations, in which the application for the parking of the park was accepted after only 15 seconds of silence.
The biggest challenge before the award was the poor condition of the park, which was partly ruin -like and overgrown. Against the background of these preconditions and the concerns about the promotion of the park, including because of the castle in need of restoration and the overgrown visual axes, the pressure grew to bring about changes. Thanks to a comprehensive renovation and financial support from the ranks of the federal government, Warsaw and Saxony, the park has been upgraded since then. The restoration of visual axes and bridges, some of which were lost after the Second World War, is only part of the far -reaching measures.
economic effects and visitor numbers
The effects of world heritage recognition are clearly noticeable. Mayor Thomas Krahl reported a doubling of the number of visitors, which as a result also improved the city timing considerably. Tourism has now developed into a central pillar of the economy and contributes around half to the city's gross national product. Every year around 330,000 people visit the park, with the number of Polish guests growing continuously, which underlines the cross -border importance of the park.
In the course of the anniversary, a new plaque on the double bridge on the Jeanette Island was also unveiled as a replacement for a previously stolen bronze board. These historical measures reflect the close cooperation between Germany and Poland, which focused on when applying for UNESCO recognition. Part of the recognition is based on the regulation that favors cross -border projects.
future prospects
With a view to the future, the foundation is planning further measures that are intended to upgrade Muskauer Park again. Planned projects include the construction of a museum center for the geopark and the use of brine water for heat generation. There are also considerations to move the location of the Poland market in order to better respond to the needs of the park and to avoid future problems.
The Muskauer Park is one of the most beautiful landscape parks in Europe and is an example of the gardening of the 19th century, designed by Hermann Fürst von Pückler-Muskau between 1815 and 1845. With its area of around 830 hectares, two thirds on the Polish side, the park not only has a cultural meaning, but also a positive economic effect on the communities of Leknica and Bad Muskau.
Saxony's Minister of Culture Barbara Klepsch described the recognition as a "true success story", which contributes significantly to the attractiveness of the region. The Muskauer Park is therefore not only a legacy of the landscape architecture, but also an attraction for tourists and the local economy.
In summary, the World Heritage anniversary shows how far the Muskauer Park has developed in the past 20 years and what it is important for the region. Celebrations can be combined with a look at the most exciting challenges and success of the past two decades.
