Invitation to reflection: Pavilion of fear tours through Chemnitz!
Theaterplatz, Chemnitz, Deutschland - Research on the connection of emotions and movement behavior accepts concrete forms on June 5, 2025. The professorship for general psychology and biopsychology of TU Chemnitz cooperates with the art collections in Chemnitz in the context of the upcoming exhibition "Edvard Munch. Fear". This will take place in the art collections on Theaterplatz from August 10 to November 2, 2025. The exhibition not only shows works by the outstanding Norwegian artist Edvard Munch (1863–1944), but also contemporary positions that deal with similar topics.
As part of this cooperation, the “Pavilion of Angst” will travel by Chemnitz and offer the citizens numerous interactive offers. Visitors can take part in conversations, singing, painting, readings and even cinema in the open air. In addition, students and scientific assistants should carry out surveys to the fears of the participants in order to obtain deeper insights into emotional conditions.

The artistic heritage of Munch
Edvard Munch is known as one of the most important European artists. His works address central human emotions such as love, fear and death. In particular, the uncanny atmosphere of his pictures, as in "fear" or "the shouting", has left a lasting impression. In an earlier exhibition in the Leopold Museum, Munch's influence on the representation of the eerie in art was examined in 2009/10. This exhibition spanned the sheet of classic artists such as Piranesi and Goya to Munch, the works of which reflect mental abysses and deep -seated fears, and thus create a connection to contemporary topics.
A catalog of this exhibition that deals with the artistic and psychological aspects of the works is a valuable testimony to interest in the scary in art. This shows the continuous relevance of Munch's work to the present day.
