Iran demands clear commitments from the United States to reveal sanctions!

On Monday, June 2, 2025,

Iran called for a clear promise to cancel sanctions that are related to its controversial nuclear program. Esmail Baghaei, the spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made it clear that a solution in the ongoing negotiations can only be achieved if there were "real guarantees" for the end of these sanctions. The negotiations, which have been going on for more than seven weeks, have so far not made any significant progress, as the US authorities confirmed.

The US government criticized

Baghaei because so far there has been no sufficient clarity to terminate the sanctions. Washington had submitted a proposal, which it described as "acceptable", according to which Iran should do without the continuation of his uranium enrichment. However, this is decidedly rejected by Tehran. Iran is currently on a critical course because it has increased its uranium enrichment to 60 percent, which is far above the limit of 3.67 percent determined by the 2015 agreement.

The negotiation positions

There is increasing disagreement about the negotiations. The United States, under the influence of President Trump, put pressure on Iran, which enrichment, which Iranians feel as an intervention in their national pride. US representative Steve Witkoff described a possible continuation of the enrichment as the "red line". At the same time, there are reports on a leaked UN report, which documents the increased production of 60 percent enriched uranium in Iran. Baghaei, however, rejected this report as biased and accused Western powers of putting pressure on the UN to discredit Iran’s projects.

The fifth round of the nuclear talks took place in Rome in early May. Two suggestions from Oman were also discussed, but Iran rejected. These suggestions included a suspension of uranium enrichment for six months and the establishment of a regional consortium to monitor Iranian nuclear activities. Iran fears that the assumption of such proposals could lead to further claims from the United States.

consequences and potential escalation

The American government is concerned about the possibilities of nuclear armament of Iran and has therefore announced new sanctions against the country. These are directed against Iranian representatives of the nuclear program and the company Fuya Pars Prospective Technologists, which has connections to the military research organization SPND. Foreign Minister Marco Rubio expressed that Iran further expanding its nuclear program activities, which continues to complicate the situation.

The next talks between the USA and Iran have not yet been scheduled, while the situation remains tense. Some US intelligence reports indicate that Israel is preparing for military measures against Iranian nuclear locations. Iran's President Masud Pezeshkian, on the other hand, emphasized that the country can survive without a new agreement, which increases the uncertainty about the future development of nuclear negotiations.

The urgency for an agreement could increase by the end of June, since European powers threaten to restore UN sanctions if a compromise does not come about. In view of the complex geopolitical situation and deep distrust between the negotiating partners, the question remains whether an agreement can be reached that respects the national concerns of both the security interests of the United States and Irans.
