Massive drone attack on Ukraine: over 100 attackers in the air!
On the evening of May 25, 2025, the Russian army started a large -scale attack on Ukraine, which is considered one of the worst drone attacks since the beginning of the war. Ukrainian military observers reported over 100 fight drones that were in the air before midnight. Air alarms were activated across the country, especially in the north, east and south. The port city of Odessa, which was bombed from the Black Sea, was particularly affected. In the past nights, the Russian armed forces had already carried out attacks on Ukraine with rockets and marching aircraft. At least twelve people died in these attacks on Sunday, while almost 80 more were injured.
This escalation of violence falls together with the international exchange of prisoners of war, in which 1000 prisoners returned from Russia. The commander of the ASOW brigade, Denys Prokopenko, criticized this state, because there were no soldiers in his unit among the returnees. Prokopenko described this as a "shame for the country" and called for a priority exchange for ASOW fighters who defended the steel mill in Mariupol in 2022 and have been captive since then. These brigades form the heart of the new large association 1. Corps of the National Guard Asow.
resistance from the air
The Ukrainian armed forces are still actively involved in the use of drones, especially against the Russian fleet in the Caspian Sea. On November 6, Ukrainian drones met two Russian frigates - the "Tatarstan" and "Dagestan" - which are stationed over a thousand kilometers from the front line. Although the damage to the ships is currently described as non-critical nature, such attacks reduce the threat from calibr-marching aircraft and restrict the maneuverability of the Russian fleet.
Russia has also tried new tactics with Shaheed/Geran drones that are used at a low height against Kiev. However, these drones that fly under the clouds and are slower are easier to recognize for the Ukrainian air defense. Current front development
With regard to the front development in Ukraine, the situation remains tense. While Russian troops report progress in southern Donbass, the Ukrainian counterattacks have so far been largely unsuccessful. Major General Dmytro Marchenko, a critical commander of the Ukrainian army, withdraws for health reasons, which could have a further impact on the strategic situation in the region. It is also reported that North Korean soldiers are integrated into Russian units to solve interoperability problems.
The intensifying situation illustrates the complexity and brutality of the conflict, which continues to demand countless civilian victims and stir up the hope of rapid termination of hostility.
