Fraud on the phone: The police warn of new stitches in Cuxhaven!
In the district of Cuxhaven, a wave of shock calls occurred on Thursday, June 5, 2025, in which fraudsters spoke as false police officers, prosecutors or bank employees to steal high amounts of money. Fortunately, no financial damage has been reported so far. It is thanks to an attentive bank employee that in a specific case of a 58-year-old woman from Wurster North Sea coast, a considerable loss was saved.
The fraudsters had pointed out to the woman on the phone that her relatives were involved in a serious traffic accident and that a deposit had to be paid to avert a prison sentence. When she wanted to withdraw the money, the bank employee informed her about the possible fraud, which led to the telephone call ended. The police urgently warns against taking such calls seriously and emphasizing that neither the police nor the public prosecutor are demanding deposits. Citizens are asked to be suspicious and to contact the real police in case of doubt.
