Married couple celebrates golden wedding: service disaster on the Baltic Sea!

An unforgettable experience should be for the Dr. Michael and Dr. Carola Dorgerloh from Wuppertal becomes when they celebrated their golden wedding on August 30, 2024 on the Baltic Sea. The aim of her celebration was the lighthouse Darßer Ort, one of the oldest lighthouses on the German Baltic Sea coast, which was inaugurated in 1849 and impressed with its 35.4 meters. The lighthouse was remotely controlled in 1978 and was a popular destination until its closure in 1962. After extensive renovations, visitors have been able to climb the tower again since 1995 and enjoy the breathtaking view of the Baltic Sea.

To meet the occasion, the Dorgerlohs did a 15.7 km long beach hike from Althagen to the lighthouse. After the effort, they were ready for a coffee break in the museum café of the adjacent information and exhibition center "Natureum Darßer Place". A variety of exhibitions on the region's natural history are waiting for visitors here. A special attraction is the possibility of climbing the walk -in lighthouse that is part of the nature and enjoying the wonderful view of 30 meters.

service problems at the lighthouse

Unfortunately, the visit to the café quickly turned out to be a disappointment. The couple found that the café closed at 5:20 p.m., while an opening time was given on the Internet until 6 p.m. This meant that they had to search for alternatives to get back to Prerow.

The plan to drive back with a carriage also failed because there were no more trips that day. Disappointed, they made their way to the next bus stop, just to find out that the last bus had already been left. A call to the taxi company showed that there were also no capacities available. So they had no choice but to hitchhike until they were taken away by friendly Berliners.

The café operating team, however, referred to their electronic cash register, which showed that the last guest was served at 6:20 p.m. It was pointed out that access to the café is only reserved for guests of the museum.

lighthouse Darßer Ort and the Natureum

The lighthouse Darßer town is enthroned at the northernmost headland of the Darß peninsula and not only offers visitors outlook, but also an insight into the variety of nature. The Natureum itself is part of the "Vorpommer Boddenlandschaft" National Park and shows the dynamics and the need for protection of the Darßer landscape. The exhibitions address the natural area Darßer Place and the Baltic Sea coast. Selected aquariums and a wetland biotope complete the offer. The interactive exhibition "Darßwald at Night" is particularly attractive, which shows twilight -active animals in an impressive scenario.

The Dorgerlohs situation raises questions about service quality in such tourist attractions. Despite the difficulties, the lighthouse is visited in summer 700 to 1000 people who want to enjoy the beauty of the Baltic Sea and the impressive landscape. The last option to drive back with a carriage is ideal on Tuesday to Saturday at 11:30 a.m. from Prerow, while the last Bimmelbahn return is currently taking place at 4:15 p.m.

For future visitors to the lighthouse and the nature, it is important to clarify the opening times and transport connections in advance in order to avoid unpleasant surprises. Further information offers the operators of the lighthouse and the tourism portal Auf-nach-mv.de .
