Stau-alarm on the Ascension weekend: Travelers have to prepare!
Stau-alarm on the Ascension weekend: Travelers have to prepare!
From Wednesday, May 28, 2025, drivers must expect increased traffic on the motorways. This is announced by the Auto Club Europa (ACE) and the ADAC. Thursday, May 29, marks a nationwide holiday and many travelers use the following Friday, May 30th, as a bridge day. So there is a long weekend ahead of "travel chaos" and traffic jams.
Special stem risk is mainly on the metropolitanway motorways and on the routes in the direction of the Alps and coasts. Access to local recreation areas are also heavily frequented. The lunch on Wednesday is expected between 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. with an increased traffic density from noon. On the holiday itself there is a driving ban for trucks, which reduces the risk of traffic jams, but a lot of excursion traffic is expected on the side routes.
predictions for the coming days
Friday, May 30th, is considered free of school in several federal states, which is why fewer disabilities are expected on the traffic routes. Nevertheless, afternoon traffic in the metropolitan areas will be noticeable. Moderate traffic is expected on Saturday, but delays in southern directions could occur. Sunday, June 1st, initiates the wave of returns, which begins at noon and could lead to high traffic jams, especially when the weather is nice.
The routes, according to ADAC, include:
- Fernstrasse from and to the coast
- Combination rooms: Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Munich
- A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, A9, A10, A24, A81, A93, A95/B2, A96, A99
Current construction sites and traffic situation
In addition to the increased risk of traffic jams, there are full closures on several motorway sections, which could make a smooth passage more difficult. These include:
- A40 Essen towards Duisburg: from May 28th, 9pm to June 3., 5 a.m.
- A42 Kamp-Lintfort-Dortmund: May 30th, 9pm to June 2, 5 a.m.
- A67 Mannheim towards Mönchhof-Dreieck: May 31, 9 p.m. to 2 June, 5 a.m.
- A45 Hagen-Gießen: Until further notice between Lüdenscheid-Nord and Lüdenscheid
The ADAC also points out a tense construction site situation in Austria, especially on the Brenner motorway and the Inn Valley Autobahn A12. In the Czech Republic, tunnel renovations on the D8 (Dresden-Prague) ensure additional congestion. In addition, random -like border controls have been expected at the German borders since the beginning of May, which can lead to longer waiting times at certain transitions.
For a better overview of the traffic situation, an interactive dashboard is available on the Autobahn.de website, which shows the current traffic situation on the German motorways. The information collected about the longest traffic jams and the number of current construction sites enable drivers to prepare themselves as best as possible on their trips.
In summary, travelers are preparing for an exhausting ascension weekend. The prevailing weather conditions could also increase the traffic flows. It is therefore advisable to regularly find out about the current traffic situation before starting the trips.Details | |
