The German volleyball players successfully fought their start in the Nations League (VNL). In the first competitive game under the direction of coach Giulio Bregoli, the players in Rio de Janeiro prevailed 3-0 against South Korea. The sentences ended with 25:17, 25:15 and 25:21. Particularly noteworthy is the performance of captain Camilla Weitzel, who was the most successful attacker of the game with 16 points. Weitzel, born on June 11, 2000 in Hamburg, plays as a middle blocker and is active for her current club, Chieri ’76 volleyball, where she wears the jersey number 21.
The next game of the German team will take place on Thursday evening at 10:30 p.m. CEST against the Olympic champion Italy. In preparation, the DVV team was able to defeat the Italians twice. The Nations League is part of the intensive preparation for the upcoming World Cup, which will take place in Thailand at the end of August. Before this big event, however, the European Championship qualification is on the program.

The 18 best teams in the world compete in the Nations League, each playing twelve group games in three different locations. The best eight teams qualify for the knockout round, which follows the group games. The Volleyball World Championship is held with 24 teams. These are divided into four groups with six teams each. Camilla Weitzel and her career
Camilla Weitzel has already established itself in her young career as one of the outstanding players. After moving to Dresden to the youth academy of Olympia Dresden in 2013, she made her debut in the league on October 28, 2017. Their successes include the title as a German cup winner in the 2017 season and multiple profits of international competitions, including the Western European Volleyball Zonal Association Cup and the Challenge Cup. At international tournaments, Weitzel took part in various European championships and the Nations League.
The team around Weitzel is optimistic in preparation for the World Cup. The team trained for seven weeks in the Olympic and Paralympic training center in Kienbaum. In the coming weeks it will be shown whether Germany can be successful in the VNL and the World Cup. The anticipation and the team chemistry are high and the players are ready to show their skills on the international floor.
