RUB Bochum: Pioneers for just change in the European economy!
Ruhr-Universität Bochum, 44801 Bochum, Deutschland - On May 27, 2025, a nine-member delegation from the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs of the European Parliament (EMPL) attended the Ruhr University Bochum. The delegation visit was an important step in order to shed light on approaches to a fair change in the European economy. The focus was particularly on innovations and strategies that support structural change in the region.
The Ruhr University presented its remarkable institutions and activities during the event, which are located on the Innovation Campus Mark 51 ° 7. This included the WorldFactory and the Academy of the Ruhr University, which specializes in professional training. Another highlight was the Humaine competence network, which promotes human -centered artificial intelligence in the world of work.
role of artificial intelligence in the European economy
The importance of artificial intelligence (AI) for the European economy is also being discussed intensively at the political level. According to a report by the European Parliament, KI can improve health care, increase the security of vehicles and personalize services. In addition, it optimizes production processes, which can provide European companies significant competitive advantages. This is particularly relevant for the green and circulatory -oriented economy, machine production, agriculture and the tourism sector.
The MEPs of the European Parliament underline that legislation for AI has to focus on people. The aim is to create a legal framework that promotes trust, ethical standards and jobs. A corresponding proposal for the regulation of AI was presented by the Commission on April 21, 2021 and provides for a classification of AI systems according to the risk of users. With the adoption of these regulations, the first regulations for AI would be introduced worldwide.
overarching perspectives and strategic initiatives
The delegation was led by the RUB Makerspace at the end of the visit, which serves as a further example of the innovative strength and support of structural change. These initiatives are part of a comprehensive European strategy that also includes the development of a competitive "artificial intelligence made in Europe" and the creation of European data spaces and a mass data infrastructure. The laws to promote data exchange adopted as part of this strategy relate to 2022 and 2023 and are of central importance for the success of AI development in Europe.
Overall, the delegation visit at the Ruhr University Bochum shows the central role of this institution as a driving force for sustainable transformations and social structural change in the region. The concepts and approaches presented there are therefore not only locally, but also at European level.
