Great evacuation: Fire in the basement of the special school for the deaf!

On Thursday afternoon, June 5, 2025, the Essen fire brigade was alerted to a special school for deaf people in Tonstrasse at 1:37 p.m. The automatic fire alarm system had triggered, and part of the school building was already smoked when the emergency services arrived. Thanks to the quick reaction of the teachers, the evacuation of the students and employees was successfully carried out. Hearing -impaired people were also warned in good time by the acoustic and optical warning systems.

The fire brigade was able to quickly control the situation, and after the measures were completed, the building was returned to the school management. The police have now investigated the cause of the fire. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
