Around 10:50 p.m., an unknown perpetrator stole the vehicle, whose ignition key was probably stuck, and then the car was sunk in the Neckar near Freiberg. The theft was immediately reported to the police, but the search was initially unsuccessful.

On Thursday morning, a passer -by discovered the sunken vehicle in the Neckar and alarmed fire brigade and police around 6:35 a.m. Several emergency services came, including the water protection police, and a fireman was lowered to the Mitsubishi with a rope.
