Fame in Gaza: Desperate families fight for survival!
Gaza, Palästina - The humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip reaches alarming proportions, while the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) distributed 8,000 food packages on Tuesday, which corresponds to 462,000 meals. According to the Al Jazera correspondent Hind al-Khourdary, these rations are not sufficient to supply families in the long term. A Palestinian father desperately expressed that they were starving and would do everything to eat their children. A mother of three children, Abu Sa’da, also described the humiliating experience in picking up a food package.
The distribution took place at the new SDS-1 location, where the number of waiting people was so high that the GHF team had to withdraw in the late afternoon to ensure a safe removal of the relief supplies. The GHF itself emphasized that the needs in Gaza are enormous and that support from Israel and the USA should be an answer to the catastrophic situation. Despite the efforts of GHF, the relief supplies are under massive criticism. The UN representatives, including the UN head of help Tom Fletcher, pointed out that the organization only serves a part of Gazas and ignores other urgent needs.
water and electricity deficiency tighten the emergency position
A central problem remains the lack of water and electricity, which makes the preparation even impossible for limited food resources. Tarq Abu Azzoum from Al Jazeera reported that many of the dry foods such as lentils, rice or pasta cannot be cooked without water and electricity. People drive these circumstances to look for leftovers in waste mountains.
The GHF was only founded this year and received support from the Trump administration and Israeli officials. However, the Israeli government is under pressure to loosen the blockade in order to let essential relief goods into the country. Criticism of this aid organization comes not only from the UN, but also from Hamas, which GHF blames for the mismanagement of the relief goods. Hamas claims that the hunger crisis was caused by the blockade and the alleged failure of the GHF, while the GHF and Israeli authorities accuse Hamas of preventing the civilian population from reaching the distribution centers.
international reactions and persistent emergency
The international community, including organizations such as Unicef and Oxfam, warns of a stricter humanitarian emergency. Unicef particularly emphasizes that the lifeline for children in the Gaza Strip is almost dried up. Hunger, thirst and diseases are widespread, and reports on looting of business have been piling up since the blockade began in March. Food prices have risen drastically, and several organizations require urgent measures to support the population.
The UN has confirmed that around 171,000 tons of food are stored outside the Gaza Strip that are sufficient to cover the basic needs of the population for up to four months. However, the access of these relief supplies for the local organizations is severely restricted due to the blockade and the persistent clashes. The most basic needs of the civilian population are less and less fulfilled, which shows the system of the crisis.
The humanitarian emergency in the Gaza Strip remains critical, while the GHF and other organizations are struggling to meet the needs of the population. The international community is required to take measures to break through the blockade and improve the offers of help in order to ensure people's survival in this region.
Overall, it can be seen that the current situation has far -reaching consequences and urgently needs a solution. Experts warn that the persistent blockade by Israel could lead to massive displacement within Gazas, which would further tighten the humanitarian crisis.
