Norwegian winner Sören Waerenskjold triumphs on the German Tour!
A really big cycling race took place on August 24, 2025: Sören Waerenskjold, a promising 25-year-old professional cyclist from Norway, secured overall victory in the 40th edition of the Deutschland Tour. He drives for the Uno-X Mobility team and brilliantly defended the blue jersey of the overall leader on the final stage from Halle/Saale to Magdeburg over 163.7 kilometers. This time the event attracted particular attention because it is documented in detail in the tradition of one of Germany's oldest stage races, which was first held in 1911, then under the name “Across Germany”.
Waerenskjold showed that he started with a good hand and a lot of skill. He had already won the prologue in Essen and the third stage to Kassel. “A real feat” is how experts describe his dominant performance in the first half of the tour. On the final stage itself, however, the Brit Matthew Brennan from the Visma – Lease a Bike team was the fastest in the final sprint, followed by Waerenskjold and the Italian Jonathan Milan from Lidl-Trek.
An exciting finale
The last few kilometers were anything but quiet. In the peloton, which was reduced to around 50 professional cyclists with 60 kilometers to go, Nils Politt put a lot of pressure on the sprinters with a courageous attack. This was particularly evident in the sprint race, where Florian Lipowitz from Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe, who came third overall, strongly supported his sprint captain Danny van Poppel. It was precisely in this final sprint phase that an unfortunate fall occurred: German sprinter Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain Victorious) had to painfully give up five kilometers before the finish, followed by his teammate, who also fell shortly before the finish line.
The overall ranking of this year's Deutschland Tour shows how well this competition has established itself in German cycling. Founded as one of the first road cycling tours, the Germany Tour has experienced many ups and downs. After a long dry spell between 2008 and 2018, thanks to a collaboration between the Association of German Cyclists and the Amaury Sport Organization, she finally found her way back into racing, and with remarkable success, according to the Wikipedia portal.
A look at the rankings
At the end of the ongoing discussion about overall victory, the following rankings are shown:
