Onygo from Hamburg reports bankruptcy: 23 branches affected!
Hamburg, Deutschland - The shoe and fashion chain Onygo, known for their fashion orientation towards young women, has now registered bankruptcy on their own administration. This was announced on June 3, 2025 after the Hamburg District Court had received a corresponding application. Managing Director Frank Revermann confirmed the company's financial problems, which previously belonged to the Deichmann Group.
Onygo had to initiate a temporary bankruptcy proceedings in self -administration on April 22, 2025. Revermann remains at the head of the company in this procedure, but receives support from an administrator. A concrete reason for the bankruptcy has not yet been mentioned, which increases uncertainty about the future of the company.
branch closures and employees
A total of all 23 branches are affected nationwide, including two in Hamburg, which are located in the European capassage and in the Elbe shopping center. Around 150 employees are currently employed at Onygo, and their future depends heavily on the negotiations that Revermann wants to lead with the landlords. The goal is to maintain as many jobs and locations as possible to continue operating.
In autumn 2023, Deichmann surprisingly announced that the Onygo brand led to a restructuring plan. Frank Revermann took over the brand in the spring of 2024 and founded onygo Retail GmbH, but the associated hopes for a restart and a successful business remained behind the expectations.
context of corporate insolvencies
The bankruptcy of Onygo does not stand by itself. In 2024, a total of 21,812 companies in Germany filed for bankruptcy, which means an increase of around 22.4% compared to the previous year. The causes are diverse and range from persistent crises to economic difficulties that affect the market in particular that have been on the market for several years. The current figures of ifm bonn show that in 2024 around 270,000 commercial companies and estimated 90,000 freelance activities were hired.
Whether onygo remains in this difficult economic situation will be decided in the coming weeks. Frank Revermann remains optimistic and continues to see opportunities for the company, despite the challenging circumstances.
