Pedeluc in Ludwigshafen: Free pedelecs for sustainable mobility!
Ludwigshafen, Deutschland - The city of Ludwigshafen launched a new project in cooperation with the traffic club Germany: "Pedeluc". The aim of this initiative is to move commuters to the bike to switch from the car or motorcycle. This measure is in the context of an increasing need to promote more environmentally friendly means of transport and to promote the turnaround. Diethelm Messinger, a representative of the Transport Club Germany, recently presented one of the pedelecs who were bought by the city to support this change. According to the Rheinpfalz this is a further step towards more sustainable mobility.
In the run -up to World Bike Day on June 3, which also includes the European Day of the Bicycle, an interesting picture of bicycle use in Germany is shown. A survey by Cyclelo in cooperation with Innofact AG showed that 33 percent of the wheel rides more bike than before Corona pandemic, while 10 percent are traveling significantly more. It is particularly striking that 40 percent of 18 to 29-year-olds stated in their use. These figures illustrate the changing trend in the use of traffic and the increasing popularity of the bicycle, especially during pandemic, as cycling as an ideal means of transport for "social distancing".
bicycle use and e-bikes in the trend
The bicycle industry itself plays a central role in the mobility transition and in climate protection. In 2023, sales of around 7 billion euros were recorded. E-bikes have developed into a significant driver of the sales, with over two million e-bikes sold, which make up about half of the total bicycle sales. Information from Statista show that around 2.3 million bicycles produced in Germany were produced in Germany.
popularity of cargo bikes and rising prices
Another interesting trend is the growing interest in cargo bikes, the sales of which have doubled since 2020. Around 235,300 were sold in 2023, and a large part of it are electrically supported models. The average price for bicycles has more than doubled in the past five years, with e-bikes mostly having a higher price than conventional bicycles. This is also reflected in the increased demand and the growing acceptance of bicycles as environmentally friendly alternatives to the car.
Developments in the bicycle industry and the increasing use of bicycles and e-bikes are in line with the goals of the traffic turn. The efforts in Ludwigshafen and other cities to motivate commuters to switch to the bike are part of this comprehensive movement that aims at sustainability and environmental protection.
