A possible disaster situation?
The forecasts are still uncertain: meteorologists warn that the temporal and spatial differences in rain forecasts could also lead to a potential catastrophic situation. Experts from weather.com have carried out model calculations that suggest the possibility of rainfall between 100 and 200 liters per day. These would be three times as strong as flood events in June 2024 and could reach catastrophic proportions.
“We are monitoring the situation closely,” explains meteorologist Ronald Porschke. Those bordering rivers in southeastern Germany as well as in Austria and the Czech Republic should pay particular attention, as there could be a risk of flooding. Small shifts in the air mass distribution could be crucial for the actual course of the rainfall and its intensity.
Climate change and extreme weather
