Wattenheim industrial area: Who will get a standstill up and running?

Wattenheim, Deutschland - In the Rhineland-Palatinate community of Wattenheim, the development of a new industrial area is on the brink. A 1.73 hectare area is planned next to the former supermarket, which is now known as ODM. However, the Palatinate Infrastructure GmbH has announced that the building land development work at the end of the year, which now leads to a setback for the municipality. The service contract between the local municipality of Wattenheim and Pfalzwerke AG for the development of the planned industrial area was dissolved after six years, as the Rheinpfalz reports.

The previous preliminary planning has already caused costs of around 41,000 euros that have been fully borne by the municipality. Now Wattenheim is looking for a new carrier to promote the development of the "Hettenleidelheimer Straße" industrial area. The administration works to obtain offers from at least three professionally qualified planning offices. The building authority of the Leiningerland Association has recommended that the development plan be allocated before further planning is addressed.

growth in Wattenheim

Despite the difficulties in the industrial area closure, Wattenheim generally shows a positive development. The municipality has changed significantly in recent years, and several construction projects are currently being implemented. A new residential area "Am Bild" with 39 building sites is created. At the same time, other small commercial areas are planned between the A6 motorway and the entrance to the town, for which interested parties exist, reports Immorheinpfalz.de.

Previous vacancies are low and old buildings are encouraged. The municipality has also initiated consistent vacancy management. This development is particularly important because many residents commute to the nearby Rhein-Neckar area, where the situation on the A6 is considered attractive.

village structures and challenges

Wattenheim has changed from an agricultural village with a few full -time farmers to a municipality with around 50 jobs through smaller commercial companies and service providers. This structural change is also reflected in club life, which is in transition. Furthermore, many young people are involved in the Hettenleidelheim Wattenheim base fire brigade.

The population has been settled in around 1,600 people since the 1980s. In view of demographic change, this is an interesting aspect, since municipal structures are increasingly dependent on pursuing future -proof urban development concepts. Dealing with shrinkage, especially in rural areas, remains a challenge. The municipalities are advised to focus on innovative approaches to use space and new governance models in order to preserve the attractiveness of the community despite falling population, as shown in an analysis of demographic change.

In view of these developments, it remains to be seen how Wattenheim will master the challenges and whether the industrial estate can be realized in the end.
