Living animal transports under control: Police reveal violations on the A61!

On Thursday, May 22, 2025, the Mainz traffic directorate, together with various authorities, carried out comprehensive control at the Hunsrück Ost rest area on the A61, which focused on living animal transport. Between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., 13 vehicles were checked, including transports of living animals and food. Five of the transports showed complaints.

A case was particularly tricky in which a driver of a fish transport had not fulfilled his cleaning obligations. In three other cases, violations of animal protection law and food and animal disease law were found. The control led to 2,500 euros. There were also problems with social regulations and technical defects, which means that a driver was prohibited from continuing. The responsible authorities are now initiating an investigation into the company seats of the contested transports.
