The Emichsburg is an old palace complex, which was originally built in the 16th and 17th centuries and can be found on the edge of Bockenheim today, about 20 kilometers south of Alzey and 10 kilometers west of Worms. The remains of the complex are located on a church hill next to the former St. Martin military church. While parts of the ring wall and the Renaissance portal have been preserved, the area is now used as a winery and also includes a new building from the early 19th century.

History of the Emichsburg

The beginnings of Bockenheim are documented until 770. Count Emich II of Leiningen ruled in 1110 from the Altleiningen parent castle. The Emichsburg itself was first mentioned in 1502 when Count Emich IX. the castle was rebuilt. Over the centuries, the facility was repeatedly exposed and destroyed. So it was badly damaged in the Thirty Years' War and during the Palatinate War of Succession.

Today's Emichsburg emerged from the ruins of an earlier building, which also served as a residence. After extensive renovations in the middle of the 18th century, it was finally destroyed in 1797/98 and fell to the French state. The site was later used agricultural, and in the first half of the 19th century it was owned by Heinrich Janson, who managed the extensive vineyards around the estate.
