Forgotten places in Ellerstadt: anecdotes of a historic walk

Ellerstadt, Deutschland - On May 26, 2025, interested citizens in Ellerstadt were invited to an exciting village tour in the "Unnerdorf". Michael Wiel, the chairman of the association for Local history Ellerstadt , welcomed the 20 participants and emphasized the importance of historical exploration. Under the direction of Martin Schwarzweller, the present received valuable insights into the local history.

Blackweller told anecdotes about the houses and their former residents, who shaped the “Unnerdorf”. These stories not only illuminated the everyday life of the past, but also made the places of Ellerstadt forgotten today. This exploration tour is part of the efforts to preserve the region's historical legacy and to bring closer to the citizens, which the project has been pursuing since it was founded in summer 2016.

The roots of the project

The initiative for the care of the local history began in 2016 when a working group was created from committed citizens. The first concerns included projects such as "Who knows whom in old pictures" in 2017 and a calendar for 2018. In 2018, Martin Schwarzweller gave a lecture on the history of Ellerstadt during National Socialism. In addition, the members started maintaining the listed cemetery.

A decision to found a registered association was made in mid -2018, and on February 19, 2019 the association was finally founded. These developments underline the commitment of the community to research and preserve the history of Ellerstadt.

parallels to the history of other cities

historical explorations are not only important in Ellerstadt, but can also be found worldwide. An example of this is New Orleans, a place that lies along the Mississippi River in Louisiana. This city, also known as the "Big Easy", has a rich story with many historical buildings and monuments.
sights such as the French Quarter and the old street cafés are part of the cultural identity there and reflect their lively past. In addition to lively music and special events, the historical sites, such as the St. Louis Cathedral and the Lalaurie Mansion, are essential components of this city.

Similar to the city in Louisiana, Ellerstadt also strives to preserve its historical heritage and bring closer to the citizens and visitors. The work of the association for local history is an important step in this direction and contributes to keeping the historical roots alive.
