New business courses at the JGU: opportunities for the future!
Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz, 55128 Mainz, Deutschland - The Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) expands its range of courses and from the winter semester 2025/26 two new Bachelor courses offer: Business Administration (BWL) and Economics (VWL). This represents an important addition to the existing programs in economics (WiWi) and business education (WiPäd). The new courses are intended to open young people in a targeted ways to business, administration, politics and science. Prof. Dr. Philipp Harms, Vice Dean at the department, emphasizes the relevance of these courses for current social challenges, especially in the areas of digitization, demographic change, geopolitical changes and sustainability.
To give interested parties an insight into these new possibilities, an open day takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 26, 2025. Visitors can use advisory services, get to know department life and exchange ideas with students and teachers. However, further details on the content of the courses have not yet been published.
study content and options
The BWL and VWL courses will offer various modules, including an introductory module in the first semester and five other modules from the third semester. Students can choose from ten possible fields of study, each with an interdisciplinary focus and are to prepare for specific work areas or master's programs, such as:

The new Wipäd trial program, which will be offered from the winter semester 2025/26, is particularly noteworthy. It combines bachelor and master's degree with a trainee training and includes a second. The goal is a practice -oriented training for teachers at vocational schools in Bavaria, whereby students can also receive a contract and earn money during their training.
