Russia uses Chinese laser cannon against Ukrainian drones!

According to reports, a Chinese laser barrel called "Silent Hunter" in conflict against Ukraine has reported. This laser weapon, which achieves an output of 30 kW, is used by a special unit of the Russian army to destroy Ukrainian drones. Videos published in military circles show the laser system for operations against drones, including the types shchedryk and skywalker X8 as well as Distractor's vocal drones. The recordings show how the laser system fires against a steel wall and the destinations in the air and leaves drage parts with burned holes. This information was confirmed by the Ukrainian military website "Militarnyi", which documented the successful drones. The military specialists of the Russian blog also reported the operations of the system.

The "Silent Hunter" system is mounted on a pickup and is served by the mobile aircraft group Kochevnik of the Russian special unit. It is equipped with a radar that has a range of about five kilometers, while the laser beam can target up to 1.5 kilometers. In addition, the laser has the ability to blind enemy optical systems up to three kilometers. According to reports, this technology is not only used by Russia, but also by countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iran and other nations.

arms deliveries and geopolitical context

In April 2025, Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj expressed concerns about China's arms deliveries to Russia. However, Beijing rejected these allegations, with China declaring that he had not delivered any fatal weapons. Nevertheless, China accused Ukrainian secret services in May 2025 to provide Russian companies with components for ammunition. These developments throw a light on the changing dynamics in the international arms trade and the role of various countries in the Ukraine conflict.

international defense innovations

In the context of the rapidly developing technologies in warfare, the Drone Summit 2025 will take place on May 28, 2025, organized by Riga Technical University (RTU) together with the Ministry of Defense.
