Hacker attack on PVGS: Bus company in Salzwedel under attack!
On September 11th there was a serious incident at the Salzwedel passenger transport company (PVGS) when unknown persons broke into the company network. Thanks to internal security mechanisms, this unauthorized access was quickly detected. The PVGS is concerned and has immediately initiated measures to contain and investigate the incident. In this context, the responsible data protection authorities were also informed in order to respond comprehensively to the situation.
As part of the immediate measures taken, all affected systems were isolated and secured to prevent possible further damage. In addition, PVGS security precautions have been strengthened to prevent future attacks. Affected customers and partners will be transparently informed about the incident and there is currently no evidence of misuse of the affected data. What type of data was specifically affected could not be clarified at the time of going to press, which does not make the situation any less serious.
Preventing and responding to cyber attacks
Cyber attacks are an increasingly present problem and companies must prepare for them. Hey IT offers extensive information on the subject of IT baseline protection, which is highly relevant for companies like PVGS. However, measures to deal with a cyber attack are not universal and should be tailored to the specific circumstances of each organization.
In its overview of the TOP 12 measures, the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) suggests initial impulses for responding to an incident. Although the list is not exhaustive, it offers assistance that can be particularly useful for IT managers and administrators in small and medium-sized companies. It is important to set priorities individually when processing the measures and, if necessary, to consult external know-how.
The recent events at PVGS are a strong wake-up call for all companies to reconsider and, if necessary, strengthen their security precautions. Prevention is the best protection, but a quick and strategic response can also be crucial to prevent something worse from happening. In today's digital world, it's more important than ever that if you're not careful, you could end up in trouble yourself.
