Wolfgang Böhmer was born on January 27, 1936 in Dürrhennersdorf. His career began with studying medicine at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig, where he received his doctorate in 1959. After various positions, including as chief physician for gynecology at the Protestant Paul-Gerhardt-Stift Hospital, he entered politics in 1990. From 2002 to 2011 he served as Prime Minister of Saxony-Anhalt, where he made particular contributions. Under his leadership, the CDU became the strongest force in the 2006 state elections with 36.2% of the vote.
Commitment to people was always a central point in Böhmer’s life’s work. His ability to listen and provide support in difficult situations was appreciated by many. During the memorial service, Mayor Torsten Zubehör recalled Böhmer's political work and his influence on the self-confidence of the Saxony-Anhalt people.

Wolfgang Böhmer leaves behind not only material achievements, but also a legacy of values and beliefs. He was a co-initiator of the Leucorea Foundation and established foundations that are committed to the future of education.
