Creative minds and committed citizens are celebrated in Halle (Saale)! The 158 winners of the REVIERPIONIER ideas competition were honored on September 20, 2023. This competition plays a crucial role in the structural change of Saxony-Anhalt and encourages residents to actively participate in the redesign of their region. Dr. Jürgen Ude, State Secretary for Structural Change and Large-Scale Industrial Projects, presented the prizes and emphasized the importance of citizens' commitment. “Every contribution counts when it comes to making our region fit for the future,” said Ude in his speech.
Overall, the award-winning projects were recognized in three categories: REVIERSCHALTEN, FUTURE DESIGN and FOUNDER DESIGN. Urte Hertrampf, a member of the jury, also presented a funding notice of around 5.6 million euros from the federal STARK program to support the award-winning projects. The REVIERPIONIER competition will continue until 2029 and offers annual prize money totaling one million euros for innovative local ideas.
Creative ideas for sustainable structural change
The themes of the competition are promising and reflect the challenges of the time: the focus is on commitment, children and youth, sustainability and climate protection. The commitment of citizens is essential in order to successfully continue the current transformation process in the lignite mining area. Therefore, everyone is addressed – from clubs to schools to daycare centers. Creative ideas are particularly in demand in the districts of Anhalt-Bitterfeld, Burgenlandkreis, Mansfeld-Südharz, Saalekreis and the city of Halle (Saale), as strukturwandel.sachsen-anhalt.de reports.
The application deadline for the next competition will be announced in good time. Submission is simply done via an online form, and a jury selects the best ideas to be nominated for the Audience Award. This audience award is decided through online voting - a further incentive for citizens to get involved and cast their votes.
Together for a strong future
A network meeting is planned for November 12, 2025 in the Kulturhaus Weißenfels. Here participants have the opportunity to present their projects and collect new ideas. The Leipzig Region Aufbauwerk coordinates the payment of prize money and ensures that the participants' commitment is also financially rewarded.
The Saxony-Anhalt REVIER 2038 program publicly and sustainably advocates for structural change. The financing comes partly from funds from the federal government and the state of Saxony-Anhalt. The residents are supported by funding guides from the investment bank who offer initial advice and coordinate the registration process.
