In the Wittenberg district, the risk of forest fires has reached an alarming peak: the highest danger level of 5 has been in effect here since Friday. This is the first proclamation of this level in the current summer season in Saxony-Anhalt. Loud MDR No significant rainfall has been recorded in the region for several days. Walkers should therefore no longer leave the main paths in the forest. A smoking ban that already applies from level 2 must now be taken particularly seriously.
Popular excursion destinations such as the Dübener Heide, the Annaburger Heide and parts of the Fläming are particularly affected by this ban. Although there is no high risk of forest fires in the neighboring areas of Brandenburg, the warning levels in Saxony-Anhalt continue to rise. In Jerichower Land, the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district and the city of Dessau-Roßlau, warning level 4 remains, while level 3 applies in most other districts. Only in the Altmark district of Salzwedel and the district of Stendal is the situation somewhat more relaxed with levels 2 and 1.

The classification into forest fire danger levels is based on a nationwide index that has been valid in Saxony-Anhalt since March 2014. From level 5 onwards, leaving the forest paths is strictly prohibited for safety reasons.
