Construction work at Halle main station: ICE and regional trains are canceled!

Travelers in Halle will experience a real test of patience next weekend. From November 12th to 14th, 2025 there will be extensive closures at Halle main station, which will affect train traffic. The reason for this is necessary construction work that is being carried out by the railway subsidiary InfraGO. These development measures serve to modernize the rail network in the southwest of Halle.

From Friday evening at 10 p.m., all ICE trains will be stopped and most regional trains will be canceled. Outside these times, travelers are allowed to switch to bus transport or use long-distance transport via Leipzig. In addition, a short full closure of the main station is planned between Sunday evening and Monday morning to ensure that the work runs smoothly. In the future, these construction measures will help to solve the existing infrastructure problem, with further construction sites already announced for 2026, such as the modernization of the Saale bridges near Angersdorf and Wörmlitz.

Important information for travelers

The effects of the construction work will be clearly noticeable. The following S-Bahn and regional trains are affected:

  • S-Bahn S3: Ausfall zwischen Halle-Nietleben und Halle Hauptbahnhof
  • S-Bahn S7: Kein Zugverkehr bis 17. November
  • S-Bahn S9: Ersatzbusse zwischen Halle Hauptbahnhof und Reußen
  • S-Bahn S11: Ausfall zwischen Halle Hauptbahnhof und Merseburg
  • Regionalbahn RB25: Ersatzbusse zwischen Halle Hauptbahnhof und Merseburg
  • Regionalbahn RB47: Ersatzbusse zwischen Halle Hauptbahnhof und Halle-Trotha
  • Regionalexpress RE4: Ersatzbusse zwischen Halle Hauptbahnhof und Aschersleben
  • Regionalexpress RE8 und RE9: Kein Zugverkehr
  • Regionalexpress RE16: Ersatzbusse zwischen Halle Hauptbahnhof und Merseburg

However, the connection remains in place for travelers heading to Leipzig and Bitterfeld, as do the regional connections between Halle and Magdeburg. Long-distance traffic between Berlin, Halle and Munich will be rerouted via Leipzig, while IC trains between Halle and Magdeburg and Halle and Leipzig will continue to run as usual.

Passenger rights

In case of delays of at least one hour, travelers can expect compensation of 25%. If the trip is delayed by more than two hours, the compensation increases to 50%. If a delay of at least one hour is foreseeable anyway, there is the possibility of cancellation with a full ticket refund. The Deutschland Ticket is exempt from these regulations.

In view of these changes and the necessary construction work, it is advisable to be well informed before traveling and, if necessary, to plan alternative routes.
