Better doctorates in Saxony-Anhalt: New network starts!

Something exciting is happening in Saxony-Anhalt! The Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) today launched the “University Network of Graduate Academies” program to significantly improve the support of doctoral students. idw-online reports that this nationwide network is funded with around 1.6 million euros from the European Social Fund Plus and the state of Saxony-Anhalt is set up. The aim is to develop new concepts for promoting young scientists and to optimize the framework conditions for doctoral studies.

The focus of the initiative is MLU's International Graduate Academy (InGrA), which acts as a central contact point. Not only are further training courses organized here, but applications for structured graduate programs are also advised. In order to increase the attractiveness of universities in Saxony-Anhalt for international researchers, various offers are planned, including an online course on “Good Scientific Practice” and an analysis of modern supervision concepts abroad.

Advantages for doctoral students

There is also a clear focus on accelerating doctoral degrees and increasing the success rate. Special measures are being taken to improve the framework conditions for part-time doctorates, especially in cooperation with industrial companies. This means that doctoral students can not only obtain their degree more quickly, but also have better opportunities to combine theory and practice.

But that's not all: researchers with doctorates also benefit from a wide range of options. Workshops and coaching to develop your scientific profile as well as information events about funding programs are intended to support your career. This shows that the network is not only aimed at new doctoral students, but also at already established scientists.

Interdisciplinary framework conditions

The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) sees it similarly, where doctoral programs play a central role. According to KHYS, these programs offer an interdisciplinary research environment with structured qualification and support concepts. Here the focus is on qualification in promising research topics, which ensures optimal support for personal career development.

At KIT, young scientists can find various doctoral programs that vary in terms of topic breadth and size. These programs are part of KIT's excellence strategy, which aims to create the best conditions for doctoral students. Support for internationalization and networking are also important components of these programs, which include not only graduate schools but also graduate colleges.

For those interested, information about selection procedures and application deadlines is available directly from the respective programs, so that everyone can start looking for the right opportunity to get off to a successful start in the research offensive.
