On the night of Wednesday, a 35-year-old cyclist was caught by the police in the Börde when he tipped his bike to the side. The officers who asked immediately for his condition quickly noticed the strong smell of alcohol that came deep out of his breath. A breath alcohol test let the alarm bells ring: a whopping 1.92 per thousand - far above the permitted limit of 1.6 per thousand for cyclists!

Then the man got into serious difficulties. He had to undergo a blood sample in a hospital, and the police initially prohibited him from onward. An investigation of drunkenness in traffic was opened. This incident throws a bright light on the dangers of alcohol consumption when cycling - the consequences could be serious!
